Sin not with the Tongue!

My friends, when we call ourselves Christian should there not be a noticeable difference in us from others? If we do not speak to someone and say that we are Christian should not there still be something about us that is different from the rest of the world? Should our speech be more polite and not foul? Would this be noticeable? Should our actions towards others in a day to day scenario be one of caring and encouragement?

What is our life span here in this physical world? We do not know. From one blink of the eye to another, from one heart beat to another, we cannot tell. Life is a gift. This is the time to repent and live a life that is different and set apart. Hear what the Psalmist has to say, listen to his plea and take heed. This should be ours as well.

1 Unto the end, for Idithun himself, a canticle of David.

2 I said: I will take heed to my ways: that I sin not with my tongue. I have set guard to my mouth, when the sinner stood against me. 3 I was dumb, and was humbled, and kept silence from good things: and my sorrow was renewed. 4 My heart grew hot within me: and in my meditation a fire shall flame out. 5 I spoke with my tongue: O Lord, make me know my end. And what is the number of my days: that I may know what is wanting to me. 6 Behold you have made my days measurable: and my substance is as nothing before you. And indeed all things are vanity: every man living. 7 Surely man passes as an image: yea, and he is disquieted in vain. He stores up: and he knows not for whom he shall gather these things. 8 And now what is my hope? is it not the Lord? and my substance is with you. 9 Deliver me from all my iniquities: you have made me a reproach to the fool. 10 I was dumb, and I opened not my mouth, because you have done it. 11 Remove your scourges from me. The strength of your hand has made me faint in rebukes: 12 you have corrected man for iniquity. And you have made his soul to waste away like a spider: surely in vain is any man disquieted. 13 Hear my prayer, O Lord, and my supplication: give ear to my tears. Be not silent: for I am a stranger with you, and a sojourner as all my fathers were. 14 O forgive me, that I may be refreshed, before I go hence, and be no more.

The Living Bread!

My friends, how much of this material world do we cling to? It is true that we need shelter, we need food and clothing. What else do we truly need beyond this? We need the Word of God; Jesus the Christ, the Bread of Life. What things do we fast and ask for? Are they worthy of the fasting and asking? What does Almighty God have to say regarding these things?

51 I am the living bread which came down from heaven. 52 If any man eat of this bread, he shall live forever; and the bread that I will give, is my flesh, for the life of the world.

1 Cry, cease not, lift up your voice like a trumpet, and show my people their wicked doings, and the house of Jacob their sins. 2 For they seek me from day to day, and desire to know my ways, as a nation that has done justice, and has not forsaken the judgment of their God: they ask of me the judgments of justice: they are willing to approach to God. 3 Why have we fasted, and you have not regarded: have we humbled our souls, and you have not taken notice? Behold in the day of your fast your own will is found, and you exact of all your debtors. 4 Behold you fast for debates and strife. And strike with the fist wickedly. Do not fast as you have done until this day, to make your cry to be heard on high. 5 Is this such a fast as I have chosen: for a man to afflict his soul for a day? is this it, to wind his head about like a circle, and to spread sackcloth and ashes? will you call this a fast, and a day acceptable to the Lord?

6 Is not this rather the fast that I have chosen? loose the bands of wickedness, undo the bundles that oppress, let them that are broken go free, and break asunder every burden. 7 Deal your bread to the hungry, and bring the needy and the harbourless into your house: when you shall see one naked, cover him, and despise not your own flesh. 8 Then shall your light break forth as the morning, and your health shall speedily arise, and your justice shall go before your face, and the glory of the Lord shall gather you up.

No other name under heaven!

8 Then Peter, filled with the Holy Ghost, said to them: You princes of the people, and ancients, hear: 9 If we this day are on trial concerning the good deed done to the sick man, by what means he has been made whole: 10 Be it known to you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified, whom God hath raised from the dead, even by him this man stands here before you whole. 11 This is the stone which was rejected by you the builders, which is become the head of the corner. 12 Neither is there salvation in any other. For there is no other name under heaven given to men, whereby we must be saved.

Keep Innocence!

37 Keep innocence, and behold justice: for there are remnants for the peaceable man. 38 But the unjust shall be destroyed together: the remnants of the wicked shall perish. 39 But the salvation of the just is from the Lord, and he is their protector in the time of trouble. 40 And the Lord will help them and deliver them: and he will rescue them from the wicked, and save them, because they have hoped in him.

Confess Now!

My friends,

Let us not forget confession and repentance. Remember that it is necessary if there is to be any spiritual growth to take place.

19 Now when it was late that same day, the first of the week, and the doors were shut, where the disciples were gathered together, for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood in the midst, and said to them: Peace be to you. 20 And when he had said this, he showed them his hands and his side. The disciples therefore were glad, when they saw the Lord. 21 He said therefore to them again: Peace be to you. As the Father has sent me, I also send you. 22 When he had said this, he breathed on them; and he said to them: Receive the Holy Ghost. 23 Whose sins you shall forgive, they are forgiven them; and whose sins you shall retain, they are retained.

Let not the foot of pride come to me

1 Unto the end, for the servant of God, David himself. 2 The unjust has said within himself, that he would sin: there is no fear of God before his eyes. 3 For in his sight he has done deceitfully, that his iniquity may be found unto hatred. 4 The words of his mouth are iniquity and guile: he would not understand that he might do well. 5 He has devised iniquity on his bed, he has set himself on every way that is not good: but evil he has not hated. 6 O Lord, your mercy is in heaven, and your truth reaches, even to the clouds. 7 Your justice is as the mountains of God; your judgments are a great deep. Men and beasts you will preserve, O Lord: 8 O how have you multiplied your mercy, O God! But the children of men shall put their trust under the covert of your wings. 9 They shall be inebriated with the plenty of your house; and you shall make them drink of the torrent of your pleasure. 10 For with you is the fountain of life; and in your light we shall see light. 11 Extend your mercy to them that know you and your justice to them that are right in heart. 12 Let not the foot of pride come to me, and let not the hand of the sinner move me. 13 There the workers of iniquity are fallen; they are cast out, and could not stand.

High Priestly Intercessory Prayer

1 These things Jesus spoke, and lifting up his eyes to heaven, he said: Father, the hour is come, glorify your Son, that your Son may glorify you. 2 As you have given him power over all flesh, that he may give eternal life to all whom you have given him. 3 Now this is eternal life: That they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent. 4 I have glorified you on the earth; I have finished the work which you gave me to do. 5 And now glorify me, O Father, with yourself, with the glory which I had, before the world was, with you.

6 I have manifested your name to the men whom you have given me out of the world. Yours they were, and to me you gave them; and they have kept your word. 7 Now they have known, that all things which you have given me, are from you: 8 Because the words which you gave me, I have given to them; and they have received them, and have known in very deed that I came out from you, and they have believed that you did send me. 9 I pray for them: I pray not for the world, but for them whom you have given me: because they are Yours: 10 And all my things are Yours, and Yours are mine; and I am glorified in them. 11 And now I am not in the world, and these are in the world, and I come to you. Holy Father, keep them in your name whom you have given me; that they may be one, as we also are. 12 While I was with them, I kept them in your name. Those whom you gave me have I kept; and none of them is lost, but the son of perdition, that the scripture may be fulfilled. 13 And now I come to you; and these things I speak in the world, that they may have my joy filled in themselves. 14 I have given them your word, and the world has hated them, because they are not of the world; as I also am not of the world. 15 I pray not that you should take them out of the world, but that you should keep them from evil. 16 They are not of the world, as I also am not of the world. 17 Sanctify them in truth. Your word is truth. 18 As you have sent me into the world, I also have sent them into the world. 19 And for them do I sanctify myself, that they also may be sanctified in truth.

20 And not for them only do I pray, but for them also who through their word shall believe in me; 21 That they all may be one, as you, Father, in me, and I in you; that they also may be one in us; that the world may believe that you have sent me. 22 And the glory which you have given me, I have given to them; that they may be one, as we also are one: 23 I in them, and you in me; that they may be made perfect in one: and the world may know that you have sent me, and have loved them, as you have also loved me. 24 Father, I will that where I am, they also whom you have given me may be with me; that they may see my glory which you have given me, because you have loved me before the creation of the world. 25 Just Father, the world has not known you; but I have known you: and these have known that you have sent me. 26 And I have made known your name to them, and will make it known; that the love wherewith you have loved me, may be in them, and I in them.

Judge, O Lord, them that wrong me!

1 For David himself. Judge you, O Lord, them that wrong me: overthrow them that fight against me. 2 Take hold of arms and shield: and rise up to help me. 3 Bring out the sword, and shut up the way against them that persecute me: say to my soul: I am your salvation. 4 Let them be confounded and ashamed that seek after my soul. Let them be turned back and be confounded that devise evil against me. 5 Let them become as dust before the wind: and let the angel of the Lord straiten them. 6 Let their way become dark and slippery; and let the angel of the Lord pursue them. 7 For without cause they have hidden their net for me unto destruction: without cause they have upbraided my soul.

8 Let the snare which he knows not come upon him: and let the net which he has hidden catch him: and into that very snare let them fall. 9 But my soul shall rejoice in the Lord; and shall be delighted in his salvation. 10 All my bones shall say: Lord, who is like to you? Who delivers the poor from the hand of them that are stronger than he; the needy and the poor from them that strip him. 11 Unjust witnesses rising up have asked me things I knew not. 12 They repaid me evil for good: to the depriving me of my soul. 13 But as for me, when they were troublesome to me, I was clothed with haircloth. I humbled my soul with fasting; and my prayer shall be turned into my bosom. 14 As a neighbour and as an own brother, so did I please: as one mourning and sorrowful so was I humbled.

15 But they rejoiced against me, and came together: scourges were gathered together upon me, and I knew not. 16 They were separated, and repented not: they tempted me, they scoffed at me with scorn: they gnashed upon me with their teeth. 17 Lord, when will you look upon me? rescue you my soul from their malice: my only one from the lions. 18 I will give thanks to you in a great church; I will praise you in a strong people. 19 Let not them that are my enemies wrongfully rejoice over me: who have hated me without cause, and wink with the eyes. 20 For they spoke indeed peaceably to me; and speaking in the anger of the earth they devised guile. 21 And they opened their mouth wide against me; they said: Well done, well done, our eyes have seen it. 22 You have seen, O Lord, be not silent: O Lord, depart not from me.

23 Arise, and be attentive to my judgment: to my cause, my God, and my Lord. 24 Judge me, O Lord my God according to your justice, and let them not rejoice over me. 25 Let them not say in their hearts: It is well, it is well, to our mind: neither let them say: We have swallowed him up. 26 Let them blush: and be ashamed together, who rejoice at my evils. Let them be clothed with confusion and shame, who speak great things against me. 27 Let them rejoice and be glad, who are well pleased with my justice, and let them say always: The Lord be magnified, who delights in the peace of his servant. 28 And my tongue shall meditate your justice, your praise all the day long.

How to bear much fruit.

4 Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abide in the vine, so neither can you, unless you abide in me. 5 I am the vine; you the branches: he that abides in me, and I in him, the same bears much fruit: for without me you can do nothing. 6 If any one abide not in me, he shall be cast forth as a branch, and shall wither, and they shall gather him up, and cast him into the fire, and he burns. 7 If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, you shall ask whatever you will, and it shall be done unto you. 8 In this is my Father glorified; that you bring forth very much fruit, and become my disciples.

Who is the man that desires life

13 Who is the man that desires life: who loves to see good days? 14 Keep your tongue from evil, and your lips from speaking guile. 15 Turn away from evil and do good: seek after peace and pursue it. 16 The eyes of the Lord are upon the just: and his ears unto their prayers.

The Good Shepherd

7 Jesus therefore said to them again: Amen, amen I say to you, I am the door of the sheep. 8 All others, as many as have come, are thieves and robbers: and the sheep heard them not. 9 I am the door. By me, if any man enter in, he shall be saved: and he shall go in, and go out, and shall find pastures. 10 The thief comes not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I am come that they may have life, and may have it more abundantly. 11 I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd gives his life for his sheep.

16 And other sheep I have, that are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice, and there shall be one fold and one shepherd. 17 Therefore does the Father love me: because I lay down my life, that I may take it again. 18 No man takes it away from me: but I lay it down of myself, and I have power to lay it down: and I have power to take it up again. This commandment have I received of my Father.

Give Praise to the Lord

1 A psalm for David. Rejoice in the Lord, O you just: praise becomes the upright. 2 Give praise to the Lord on the harp; sing to him with the psaltery, the instrument of ten strings. 3 Sing to him a new canticle, sing well unto him with a loud noise. 4 For the word of the Lord is right, and all his works are done with faithfulness. 5 He loves mercy and judgment; the earth is full of the mercy of the Lord. 6 By the word of the Lord the heavens were established; and all the power of them by the spirit of his mouth: 7 Gathering together the waters of the sea, as in a vessel; laying up the depths in storehouses. 8 Let all the earth fear the Lord, and let all the inhabitants of the world be in awe of him. 9 For he spoke and they were made: he commanded and they were created. 10 The Lord brings to naught the counsels of nations; and he rejects the devices of people, and casts away the counsels of princes. 11 But the counsel of the Lord stands for ever: the thoughts of his heart to all generations. 12 Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord: the people whom he hath chosen for his inheritance. 13 The Lord has looked from heaven: he has beheld all the sons of men. 14 From his habitation which he has prepared, he has looked upon all that dwell on the earth. 15 He who has made the hearts of every one of them: who understands all their works. 16 The king is not saved by a great army: nor shall the giant be saved by his own great strength. 17 Vain is the horse for safety: neither shall he be saved by the abundance of his strength. 18 Behold the eyes of the Lord are on them that fear him: and on them that hope in his mercy. 19 To deliver their souls from death; and feed them in famine. 20 Our soul waits for the Lord: for he is our helper and protector. 21 For in him our heart shall rejoice: and in his holy name we have trusted. 22 Let Your mercy, O Lord, be upon us, as we have hoped in You.

Rivers of Living Water!

37 And on the last, and great day of the festivity, Jesus stood and cried, saying: If any man thirst, let him come to me, and drink. 38 He that believes in me, as the scripture says, Out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water. 39 Now this he said of the Spirit which they should receive, who believed in him: for as yet the Spirit was not given, because Jesus was not yet glorified.

And be kind one to another

23 And be renewed in the spirit of your mind: 24 and put on the new man, who according to God is created in justice and holiness of truth.

25 Wherefore putting away lying, speak the truth every man with his neighbor; for we are members one of another. 26 Be angry, and sin not. Let not the sun go down upon your anger. 27 Give not place to the devil. 28 He that stole, let him now steal no more; but rather let him labor, working with his hands the thing which is good, that he may have something to give to him that suffers need. 29 Let no evil speech proceed from your mouth; but that which is good, to the edification of faith, that it may administer grace to the hearers. 30 And grieve not the Holy Spirit of God: whereby you are sealed unto the day of redemption. 31 Let all bitterness, and anger, and indignation, and clamor, and blasphemy, be put away from you, with all malice. 32 And be kind one to another; merciful, forgiving one another, even as God has forgiven you in Christ.

But godliness with contentment is great gain.

But godliness with contentment is great gain.

The Lord is my Shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters. He restores my soul; He leads me in the paths of righteousness for His name's sake.

Yea though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil; my cup runs over.

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life; and I will dwell in the house of the Lord to the end of my days.

Show yourself approved.

11 A faithful saying: for if we be dead with him, we shall live also with him. 12 If we suffer, we shall also reign with him. If we deny him, he will also deny us. 13 If we believe not, he continues faithful, he can not deny himself.

14 Of these things put them in mind, charging them before the Lord. Contend not in words, for it is to no profit, but to the subverting of the hearers. 15 Carefully study to present yourself approved unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth.

Concerning the Resurrection

14 Knowing that he who raised up Jesus, will raise us up also with Jesus, and place us with you. 15 For all things are for your sakes; that the grace abounding through many, may abound in thanksgiving unto the glory of God.

The prophet Ezekiel is given a vision of the resurrection

1 The hand of the Lord was upon me, and brought me forth in the spirit of the Lord: and set me down in the midst of a plain that was full of bones. 2 And he led me about through them on every side: now they were very many upon the face of the plain, and they were exceeding dry. 3 And he said to me: Son of man, do you think these bones shall live? And I answered: O Lord God, You know. 4 And he said to me: Prophesy concerning these bones; and say to them: You dry bones, hear the word of the Lord. 5 Thus says the Lord God to these bones: Behold, I will send spirit into you, and you shall live. 6 And I will lay sinews upon you, and will cause flesh to grow over you, and will cover you with skin: and I will give you spirit and you shall live, and you shall know that I am the Lord. 7 And I prophesied as he had commanded me: and as I prophesied there was a noise, and behold a commotion: and the bones came together, each one to its joint. 8 And I saw, and behold the sinews, and the flesh came up upon them: and the skin was stretched out over them, but there was no spirit in them. 9 And he said to me: Prophesy to the spirit, prophesy, O son of man, and say to the spirit: Thus say the Lord God: Come, spirit, from the four winds, and blow upon these slain, and let them live again. 10 And I prophesied as he had commanded me: and the spirit came into them, and they lived: and they stood up upon their feet, an exceeding great army.

11 And he said to me: Son of man: All these bones are the house of Israel: they say: Our bones are dried up, and our hope is lost, and we are cut off. 12 Therefore prophesy, and say to them: Thus says the Lord God: Behold I will open your graves, and will bring you out of your sepulchers, O my people: and will bring you into the land of Israel. 13 And you shall know that I am the Lord, when I shall have opened your sepulchers, and shall have brought you out of your graves, O my people 14 And shall have put my spirit in you, and you shall live, and I shall make you rest upon your own land: and you shall know that I the Lord have spoken, and done it, says the Lord God.

Praise the Lord with Joy!

1 Praise of a canticle for David himself. Come let us praise the Lord with joy: let us joyfully sing to God our saviour. 2 Let us come before his presence with thanksgiving; and make a joyful noise to him with psalms. 3 For the Lord is a great God, and a great King above all gods. 4 For in his hand are all the ends of the earth: and the heights of the mountains are his. 5 For the sea is his, and he made it: and his hands formed the dry land. 6 Come let us adore and fall down: and weep before the Lord that made us. 7 For he is the Lord our God: and we are the people of his pasture and the sheep of his hand. 8 Today if you shall hear his voice, harden not your hearts.

11 For thus says the Lord God: Behold I myself will seek my sheep, and will visit them. 12 As the shepherd visits his flock in the day when he shall be in the midst of his sheep that were scattered, so will I visit my sheep, and will deliver them out of all the places where they have been scattered in the cloudy and dark day. 13 And I will bring them out from the peoples, and will gather them out of the countries, and will bring them to their own land: and I will feed them in the mountains of Israel, by the rivers, and in all the habitations of the land. 14 I will feed them in the most fruitful pastures, and their pastures shall be in the high mountains of Israel: there shall they rest on the green grass, and be fed in fat pastures upon the mountains of Israel. 15 I will feed my sheep: and I will cause them to lie down, says the Lord God. 16 I will seek that which was lost: and that which was driven away, I will bring again: and I will bind up that which was broken, and I will strengthen that which was weak, and that which was fat and strong I will preserve: and I will feed them in judgment.

Give ear all you nations.

1 Unto the end, a psalm for the sons of Core. 2 Hear these things, all you nations: give ear, all you inhabitants of the world. 3 All you that are earthborn, and you sons of men: both rich and poor together. 4 My mouth shall speak wisdom: and the meditation of my heart understanding. 5 I will incline my ear to a parable; I will open my proposition on the psaltery. 6 Why shall I fear in the evil day? the iniquity of my heel shall encompass me. 7 They that trust in their own strength, and glory in the multitude of their riches, 8 No brother can redeem, nor shall man redeem: he shall not give to God his ransom, 9 Nor the price of the redemption of his soul: and shall labour for ever, 10 and shall still live unto the end. 11 He shall not see destruction, when he shall see the wise dying: the senseless and the fool shall perish together: And they shall leave their riches to strangers: 12 and their sepulchers shall be their houses for ever. Their dwelling places to all generations: they have called their lands by their names. 13 And man when he was in honour did not understand; he is compared to senseless beasts, and is become like to them. 14 This way of theirs is a stumblingblock to them: and afterwards they shall delight in their mouth. 15 They are laid in hell like sheep: death shall feed upon them. And the just shall have dominion over them in the morning; and their help shall decay in hell from their glory. 16 But God will redeem my soul from the hand of hell, when he shall receive me. 17 Be not afraid, when a man shall be made rich, and when the glory of his house shall be increased. 18 For when he shall die he shall take nothing away; nor shall his glory descend with him. 19 For in his lifetime his soul will be blessed: and he will praise you when you shall do well to him. 20 He shall go in to the generations of his fathers: and he shall never see light. 21 Man when he was in honour did not understand: he has been compared to senseless beasts, and made like to them.

Oh Lord, the Beauty of Your House

1 Unto the end, a psalm for David. Judge me, O Lord, for I have walked in my innocence: and I have put my trust in the Lord, and shall not be weakened. 2 Prove me, O Lord, and try me; burn my reins and my heart. 3 For Your mercy is before my eyes; and I am well pleased with Your truth. 4 I have not sat with the council of vanity: neither will I go in with the doers of unjust things. 5 I have hated the assembly of the malignant; and with the wicked I will not sit. 6 I will wash my hands among the innocent; and will compass Your altar, O Lord: 7 That I may hear the voice of Your praise: and tell of all Your wondrous works. 8 I have loved, O Lord, the beauty of your house; and the place where Your glory dwells. 9 Take not away my soul, O God, with the wicked: nor my life with bloody men: 10 In whose hands are iniquities: their right hand is filled with gifts. 11 But as for me, I have walked in my innocence: redeem me, and have mercy on me. 12 My foot has stood in the direct way: in the churches I will bless You, O Lord.

The Lord settles me in hope

16 For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man is corrupted, yet the inward man is renewed day by day. 17 For that which is at present momentary and light of our tribulation, works for us above measure exceedingly an eternal weight of glory. 18 While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen, are temporal; but the things which are not seen, are eternal.

1 Unto the end, in verses. A psalm for David. 2 When I called upon him, the God of my justice heard me: when I was in distress, You have enlarged me. Have mercy on me: and hear my prayer. 3 O you sons of men, how long will you be dull of heart? why do you love vanity, and seek after lying? 4 Know also that the Lord has made his holy one wonderful: the Lord will hear me when I shall cry unto him. 5 Be angry, and sin not: the things you say in your hearts, be sorry for them upon your beds. 6 Offer up the sacrifice of justice, and trust in the Lord: many say, Who shows us good things? 7 The light of You countenance O Lord, is signed upon us: You have given gladness in my heart. 8 By the fruit of their corn, their wine and oil, they are multiplied. 9 In peace in the selfsame I will sleep, and I will rest: 10 For You, O Lord, singularly has settled me in hope.

I will have mercy and not sacrifice

10 And it came to pass as he was sitting at meat in the house, behold many publicans and sinners came, and sat down with Jesus and his disciples. 11 And the Pharisees seeing it, said to his disciples: Why does your master eat with publicans and sinners? 12 But Jesus hearing it, said: They that are in health need not a physician, but they that are ill. 13 Go then and learn what this means, I will have mercy and not sacrifice. For I am not come to call the just, but sinners.
