Christmas Eve, Preface or Introductory Collect Western Rite: Merciful and most sweet God, by Whose will and by Whose gift, our Lord Jesus Christ humiliated Himself: so that the whole species of humanity might be exalted; and therefore unto the lower-most parts He descended to raise up humility. To this end, for that purpose, God was born man through the Virgin, so that He might reform the ruined heavenly Image in man. Allow these people to adhere to You, so that they whom You have redeemed by Your gifts, may be pleased to remain ever in dedicated service to You. Amen.
