Sin not with the Tongue!

My friends, when we call ourselves Christian should there not be a noticeable difference in us from others? If we do not speak to someone and say that we are Christian should not there still be something about us that is different from the rest of the world? Should our speech be more polite and not foul? Would this be noticeable? Should our actions towards others in a day to day scenario be one of caring and encouragement?

What is our life span here in this physical world? We do not know. From one blink of the eye to another, from one heart beat to another, we cannot tell. Life is a gift. This is the time to repent and live a life that is different and set apart. Hear what the Psalmist has to say, listen to his plea and take heed. This should be ours as well.

1 Unto the end, for Idithun himself, a canticle of David.

2 I said: I will take heed to my ways: that I sin not with my tongue. I have set guard to my mouth, when the sinner stood against me. 3 I was dumb, and was humbled, and kept silence from good things: and my sorrow was renewed. 4 My heart grew hot within me: and in my meditation a fire shall flame out. 5 I spoke with my tongue: O Lord, make me know my end. And what is the number of my days: that I may know what is wanting to me. 6 Behold you have made my days measurable: and my substance is as nothing before you. And indeed all things are vanity: every man living. 7 Surely man passes as an image: yea, and he is disquieted in vain. He stores up: and he knows not for whom he shall gather these things. 8 And now what is my hope? is it not the Lord? and my substance is with you. 9 Deliver me from all my iniquities: you have made me a reproach to the fool. 10 I was dumb, and I opened not my mouth, because you have done it. 11 Remove your scourges from me. The strength of your hand has made me faint in rebukes: 12 you have corrected man for iniquity. And you have made his soul to waste away like a spider: surely in vain is any man disquieted. 13 Hear my prayer, O Lord, and my supplication: give ear to my tears. Be not silent: for I am a stranger with you, and a sojourner as all my fathers were. 14 O forgive me, that I may be refreshed, before I go hence, and be no more.

The Living Bread!

My friends, how much of this material world do we cling to? It is true that we need shelter, we need food and clothing. What else do we truly need beyond this? We need the Word of God; Jesus the Christ, the Bread of Life. What things do we fast and ask for? Are they worthy of the fasting and asking? What does Almighty God have to say regarding these things?

51 I am the living bread which came down from heaven. 52 If any man eat of this bread, he shall live forever; and the bread that I will give, is my flesh, for the life of the world.

1 Cry, cease not, lift up your voice like a trumpet, and show my people their wicked doings, and the house of Jacob their sins. 2 For they seek me from day to day, and desire to know my ways, as a nation that has done justice, and has not forsaken the judgment of their God: they ask of me the judgments of justice: they are willing to approach to God. 3 Why have we fasted, and you have not regarded: have we humbled our souls, and you have not taken notice? Behold in the day of your fast your own will is found, and you exact of all your debtors. 4 Behold you fast for debates and strife. And strike with the fist wickedly. Do not fast as you have done until this day, to make your cry to be heard on high. 5 Is this such a fast as I have chosen: for a man to afflict his soul for a day? is this it, to wind his head about like a circle, and to spread sackcloth and ashes? will you call this a fast, and a day acceptable to the Lord?

6 Is not this rather the fast that I have chosen? loose the bands of wickedness, undo the bundles that oppress, let them that are broken go free, and break asunder every burden. 7 Deal your bread to the hungry, and bring the needy and the harbourless into your house: when you shall see one naked, cover him, and despise not your own flesh. 8 Then shall your light break forth as the morning, and your health shall speedily arise, and your justice shall go before your face, and the glory of the Lord shall gather you up.

No other name under heaven!

8 Then Peter, filled with the Holy Ghost, said to them: You princes of the people, and ancients, hear: 9 If we this day are on trial concerning the good deed done to the sick man, by what means he has been made whole: 10 Be it known to you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified, whom God hath raised from the dead, even by him this man stands here before you whole. 11 This is the stone which was rejected by you the builders, which is become the head of the corner. 12 Neither is there salvation in any other. For there is no other name under heaven given to men, whereby we must be saved.

Keep Innocence!

37 Keep innocence, and behold justice: for there are remnants for the peaceable man. 38 But the unjust shall be destroyed together: the remnants of the wicked shall perish. 39 But the salvation of the just is from the Lord, and he is their protector in the time of trouble. 40 And the Lord will help them and deliver them: and he will rescue them from the wicked, and save them, because they have hoped in him.

Confess Now!

My friends,

Let us not forget confession and repentance. Remember that it is necessary if there is to be any spiritual growth to take place.

19 Now when it was late that same day, the first of the week, and the doors were shut, where the disciples were gathered together, for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood in the midst, and said to them: Peace be to you. 20 And when he had said this, he showed them his hands and his side. The disciples therefore were glad, when they saw the Lord. 21 He said therefore to them again: Peace be to you. As the Father has sent me, I also send you. 22 When he had said this, he breathed on them; and he said to them: Receive the Holy Ghost. 23 Whose sins you shall forgive, they are forgiven them; and whose sins you shall retain, they are retained.

Let not the foot of pride come to me

1 Unto the end, for the servant of God, David himself. 2 The unjust has said within himself, that he would sin: there is no fear of God before his eyes. 3 For in his sight he has done deceitfully, that his iniquity may be found unto hatred. 4 The words of his mouth are iniquity and guile: he would not understand that he might do well. 5 He has devised iniquity on his bed, he has set himself on every way that is not good: but evil he has not hated. 6 O Lord, your mercy is in heaven, and your truth reaches, even to the clouds. 7 Your justice is as the mountains of God; your judgments are a great deep. Men and beasts you will preserve, O Lord: 8 O how have you multiplied your mercy, O God! But the children of men shall put their trust under the covert of your wings. 9 They shall be inebriated with the plenty of your house; and you shall make them drink of the torrent of your pleasure. 10 For with you is the fountain of life; and in your light we shall see light. 11 Extend your mercy to them that know you and your justice to them that are right in heart. 12 Let not the foot of pride come to me, and let not the hand of the sinner move me. 13 There the workers of iniquity are fallen; they are cast out, and could not stand.

High Priestly Intercessory Prayer

1 These things Jesus spoke, and lifting up his eyes to heaven, he said: Father, the hour is come, glorify your Son, that your Son may glorify you. 2 As you have given him power over all flesh, that he may give eternal life to all whom you have given him. 3 Now this is eternal life: That they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent. 4 I have glorified you on the earth; I have finished the work which you gave me to do. 5 And now glorify me, O Father, with yourself, with the glory which I had, before the world was, with you.

6 I have manifested your name to the men whom you have given me out of the world. Yours they were, and to me you gave them; and they have kept your word. 7 Now they have known, that all things which you have given me, are from you: 8 Because the words which you gave me, I have given to them; and they have received them, and have known in very deed that I came out from you, and they have believed that you did send me. 9 I pray for them: I pray not for the world, but for them whom you have given me: because they are Yours: 10 And all my things are Yours, and Yours are mine; and I am glorified in them. 11 And now I am not in the world, and these are in the world, and I come to you. Holy Father, keep them in your name whom you have given me; that they may be one, as we also are. 12 While I was with them, I kept them in your name. Those whom you gave me have I kept; and none of them is lost, but the son of perdition, that the scripture may be fulfilled. 13 And now I come to you; and these things I speak in the world, that they may have my joy filled in themselves. 14 I have given them your word, and the world has hated them, because they are not of the world; as I also am not of the world. 15 I pray not that you should take them out of the world, but that you should keep them from evil. 16 They are not of the world, as I also am not of the world. 17 Sanctify them in truth. Your word is truth. 18 As you have sent me into the world, I also have sent them into the world. 19 And for them do I sanctify myself, that they also may be sanctified in truth.

20 And not for them only do I pray, but for them also who through their word shall believe in me; 21 That they all may be one, as you, Father, in me, and I in you; that they also may be one in us; that the world may believe that you have sent me. 22 And the glory which you have given me, I have given to them; that they may be one, as we also are one: 23 I in them, and you in me; that they may be made perfect in one: and the world may know that you have sent me, and have loved them, as you have also loved me. 24 Father, I will that where I am, they also whom you have given me may be with me; that they may see my glory which you have given me, because you have loved me before the creation of the world. 25 Just Father, the world has not known you; but I have known you: and these have known that you have sent me. 26 And I have made known your name to them, and will make it known; that the love wherewith you have loved me, may be in them, and I in them.
